At Mom’s memorial service, I shared my belief that each one of us arrives in the world with a gift. And even though Mom was a minister and an artist, her gift was her ability to connect with people in a way that made them feel loved and valued. That’s probably why so many people came to honor her life at the service.
Through her ministry, her art, her friendship and sometimes just her presence, Mom showed people that they mattered. She believed that every human being on this planet had something to contribute. And she was always quick to notice those contributions and to praise them. But the beautiful thing about her gift for connecting, and the lesson for all of us in the sharing of our gifts, is this:
When we share our gifts, we are the ones who benefit the most.
